SELP - SELF EMPLOYED
PERSONS PROGRAM

The Self-employed Persons Program is a unique opportunity for talented individuals in cultural activities or athletics to immigrate to Canada permanently and make a significant contribution to the cultural and athletic landscape of Canada. To be eligible for this program, you must have relevant experience in an eligible occupation and an intent to continue your cultural or athletic activities in Canada. At Border Scapes, we are committed to helping you navigate this program and ensure a smooth and stress-free application process.

Eligible occupations fall under NOC group 51 and NOC group 52.
You must be self-employed in an eligible occupation, or involved in an eligible occupation at a world-class level, or both.
The minimum experience requirement is two 1-year periods of full-time work within the last 5 years from the date of application.
Additional years of experience can help you earn more points to qualify as a top candidate.
You must demonstrate your intent to continue your cultural or athletic activities in Canada and make an economic contribution to the activity.
Business plans, partners, exploratory visits, and funds to support your activities can help demonstrate your intent to establish the activity in Canada.
Other selection criteria, such as education, age, language abilities, and adaptability, are also assessed in the final decision-making process.

START-UP VISA

The Start-up Visa Program is an exciting opportunity for entrepreneurs with skills and potential to build innovative and competitive businesses in Canada that can create jobs and contribute to the Canadian economy. At Border Scapes, we understand the unique challenges faced by entrepreneurs and are committed to helping you navigate this program and maximize your chances of success.

To be eligible, you must have the skills and potential to build businesses in Canada that can create jobs for Canadians and be innovative and competitive on a global scale.
The eligibility criteria for the program are stringent with respect to the voting rights attached to the shares of the corporation.
You must furnish a Letter of Support from a designated angel investor, venture capital fund, or business incubator along with your application, in addition to a commitment certificate sent directly to CICC by the designated organization.
A minimum language requirement of CLB 5 in English or French is required, in addition to proof of sufficient settlement funds.
Up to 5 applicants can apply under the same business, each holding at least 10% voting rights and jointly more than 50% voting rights along with the designated organization.
If an essential applicant is rejected, then all other applicants stand rejected as well.
The Government of Canada does not provide financial support to new start-up visa immigrants, so sufficient proof of funds is necessary to process your application.

Some of the programs may also require applicants to undergo a language test and provide proof of funds.

INVESTOR PROGRAM: This program is for experienced business individuals who have a net worth of at least CAD 10 million and can make a non-refundable investment of CAD 2 million in the Canadian economy.
ENTREPRENEUR PROGRAM: This program is for individuals who have experience in owning or managing a business and have a net worth of at least CAD 500,000. They must also be able to establish or acquire a business in Canada that will create jobs for Canadians.
SELF EMPLOYED PERSONS PROGRAM: This program is for individuals with experience in cultural activities or athletics and have the intention to make a significant contribution to Canada's cultural or athletic life. They must also be able to support themselves and their family members while in Canada.

OWNER OPERATOR

The Owner-Operator Work Permit is a popular immigration pathway for entrepreneurs and their families. To be eligible for the program, the entrepreneur must either be a sole proprietor or hold a minimum of 50.1% equity stakes in a Canadian company. In addition, the business must demonstrate its ability to contribute to the Canadian economy in terms of job creation or skill transferability to Canadians. A positive Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) is required to apply for an Owner-Operator Work Permit.

One of the biggest advantages of the Owner-Operator Work Permit is the fast processing time. The Federal program aims to process these applications on a priority basis, which means that the permit may be issued for up to 2 years. This pathway offers the added benefit of allowing the entrepreneur to have complete control over the business operations and direction, which is particularly appealing for those who wish to build a legacy in Canada.

INTRA-COMPANY TRANSFERS

The Intra-Company Transfer program allows international companies to transfer qualified employees to Canada on a temporary basis. This is with a view to expand the Canadian exports, enhance competitiveness in overseas markets as well as improve the management effectiveness.

Because transferees bring valuable expertise to Canada, they are exempt from the Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA).
However, transferees still require a valid work permit to work in Canada.
Although the program is temporary, there may be opportunities for transferees to pursue permanent residence in Canada.

c-11 work permits

The C11 Entrepreneur Work Permit allows entrepreneurs and self-employed individuals to apply for a work permit with the intent of temporary entry to Canada. This work permit is exempt from LMIA and considers the economic, social, and cultural benefits that the business can bring to Canada and its citizens.

The work permit is exempt from LMIA and takes into account the potential economic, social, and cultural benefits that the business can bring to Canada and its citizens.
The work permit does not grant permanent residency status to the applicant.
Instead, it allows the applicant to set up their business in Canada and, upon fulfilling the eligibility criteria, apply for permanent residence.
To be eligible for permanent residency, the applicant must successfully manage a business in Canada for a minimum of 12 months, among other requirements as prescribed by the Canadian Immigration and Citizenship Corporation (CICC).
